TASKiFIED
Project Overview
TASKiFIED is a family chore app, it gamifies the concept of chores. The app allows parents to assign chores and tasks to their children. Upon completion of the task, the children can redeem rewards. The rewards and point values are set the admin of the app. This app encourages children to begin forming healthy discipline habits. Each assigned chore has a value assigned to it using coins or virtual currency. Children can redeem their coins for prizes that have been created by the admin of the app. TASKiFIED helps solve the problem of parents constantly nagging their kids to finish their chores. According to the Pew Research Center, 35 precent of children aged 0-2 have engaged with tablets and 49 precent of them engaged with smartphones. By ages 9-11, 78 precent of children had used a tablet and 67 precent had used a smartphone (Auxier et al., 2020). These figures demonstrate that from a very young age children are being exposed to technology. Assigning chores digitally takes the stress off parents by allowing them to simply use an app instead of a physical list on the fridge.

Concept Development
I was inspired by productivity apps, but I quickly discovered that the market was already saturated with thousands of these kinds of apps on the iOS app store. Following the design thinking process helped in creating the concept of this app. I first had to ideate, ‘Ideation is the process where you generate ideas and solutions through sessions such as Sketching, Prototyping, Brainstorming...and a wealth of other ideation techniques’ (Dam & Siang,2020). I knew I wanted to create a productivity app and used brainstorming as a method of generating ideas. I knew that the app was going to be targeted at parents with young children and as stated in the project overview, there is a high percentage of children who have interacted with digital devices by the of age of 11.

By using the lean startup methodology, I was able to quickly begin sketching up concepts for the app and receive peer feedback as I continued to develop my concept app.

I sketched out some initial designs for the basic functionalities of TASKiFIED. As seen in Figure 9, I gave a basic overview of the app functionalities and some of the potential features. I already decided that I wanted to have 2 versions of the app within the same app. The first version is the admin or parents’ part of the app, where they can view the members of the family, completed tasks, and tasks that still need completing.
